Evanescent: A Journal of Literary Medicine

Evanescent: A Journal of Literary Medicine is the journal of the Eakins Writers’ Workshop, which also sponsors the Drs. Theresa and Charles Yeo Writing Prize. The Eakins Writers’ Workshop is supported by the Jefferson Center for Injury Research and Prevention. We in healthcare bear witness to nearly every emotion of the human experience. Evanescent seeks to chronicle, communicate, and celebrate this richness of experience. Submissions are welcomed from all members of the Jefferson community. For inquiries regarding submissions, please email evanescent@jefferson.edu.

Evanescent, Issue 5

We curated this issue of Evanescent to include many of the essays submitted for the 2023-24 Yeo Writing Prize. This issue is dedicated to exploring the voices of the LGBTQ+ communities and their allies.

Evanescent, Issue 4

We curated this issue of Evanescent to include many of the essays submitted for the 2022-23 Yeo Writing Prize. This issue explores the theme of gun violence and asked the Jefferson community to respond to the question: Where is our empathy?

Evanescent, Issue 3

We curated this issue of Evanescent to include many of the essays submitted for the 2021 Yeo Writing Prize. These essays will give a window into what it was like to live through 2020-2021 for decades––if not centuries––to come.

Evanescent, Issue 2

This special COVID-19 issue of Evanescent included a selection of entries from Jefferson COVID Stories. These entries highlighted the collective experience of Jefferson during the early days of the pandemic.

Evanescent, Issue 1

This inaugural issue of Evanescent was dedicated to the stories of injury, trauma, and all of its victims. It was published in 2019 to celebrate the “humanity…in all for whom we are privileged to serve.”
